Police steal goods in illegal raid

SUKKUR: The Sindh High Court’s Sukkur bench has ordered the police to register an FIR against the policemen responsible for ransacking a railway employee’s home and stealing cash and gold. The SHO of Rohri police station is among the accused.

Ellahi Bux Mail, the victim’s lawyer, told The Express Tribune that he had filed a petition in the SHC on behalf of his client, Ali Haider Chachar.

According to the lawyer, on the night of September 10, SHO Rohri Tahir Mughal raided and ransacked his client’s house with a team of policemen. The house is located in Loco Shed Colony, Rohri. During the raid, the police allegedly stole gold ornaments worth over Rs200,000, Rs5,000 in cash and several mobile phones.

In his statement recorded before the court, the plaintiff said that the police took his brother, Ghazi Khan Chachar, into custody following the raid. His brother was released only when residents and railway employees staged a protest against the police. The authorities failed to return the stolen goods. Justice Mohammad Tasneem ordered an FIR to be lodged against SHO Tahir Mughal and the team of officials who participated in the crime. An official at the Rohri police station who requested anonymity said that no case has been registered yet.
