Suspect killed by ‘accomplice,’ claim police
Police team raids a hideout of wanted criminals on a tip-off, which prompted an exchange of fire.
RAWALPINDI:
A proclaimed offender (PO), who was wanted in various crimes, was gunned down by one of his ‘accomplices’ during an exchange of fire between the police and the suspects in Malikabad in Taxila, claimed the police.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Malik Sikandar Hayat, told The Express Tribune that a police team raided a hideout of wanted criminals on a tip-off, which prompted an exchange of fire.
The SSP said proclaimed offender Anwar Ali was shot by one of his accomplices during the incident.
The police arrested three suspects including Muhammad Ismail, Muhammad Hussain and Munsab and recovered three 30-bore pistols with 12 bullets from them, said SSP Hayat. Wanted criminals including Tariq Khan, Anwar Ali, Kamran and Zarhad reportedly fled the scene.
The SSP said that the police also searched the suspects’ hideout and seized 3,210 grams of hashish and a huge a quantity of liquor.
The body of the suspect was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital for postmortem.
On the other hand, locals said that the house, which was raided by the police, was owned by Dilshad Khan, who had also been involved in selling drugs in the area.
They said the local police had been protecting Khan and he was tipped-off by the police. He had fled the house before the raid. A source said that the victim and the arrested persons were not the key drug peddlers wanted by the police.
