Reserved seats: Petition challenges reserved seats law
Petition says that the nomination of women and minority members on reserved seats are unconstitutional.
LAHORE:
Justice Ijazul Ahsan of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday issued notices to heads of major political parties and the election commission on a petition by Advocate Tariq Azizi challenging the provision for reserved seats for women and minorities. The petition said that the nomination of women and minority members on reserved seats in assemblies and election through proportionate representation were unconstitutional under Article 226 of the Constitution which states that all elections shall be held by secret ballot.
