Speaking at the 65th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, he said that action against such terrorist groups is in the interest of the region as well as of Pakistan.
He said, “Pakistan cannot impart lessons to us on democracy and human rights,” adding that if Pakistan fulfills its commitments, it would significantly help reducing the trust deficit between the two countries.
The foreign minister said “we are neighbours, and as neighbours we have an obligation to work together.”
Commenting on the situation in Afghanistan, he said that the continuing existence of safe havens and sanctuaries for terrorists, beyond Afghanistan’s borders, is a major impediment to the restoration of peace and security in the country and that this should be the primary focus of the international community.
