Rising tides: Three women drown in Jhelum River
Police checkpoints at Kohala, Azad Pattan and Mangla Dam have been informed about the incident.
MUZAFFARABAD:
At least three women drowned in the Jhelum River near Hattian Bala on Monday.
According to the police, the ill-fated women — Noreen Bibi, 34, Faiqa Bibi, 30, and Asma Bibi, 16, all from Kanari Langla village in Hattian Bala district, were washing clothes on the river bank when they were washed away by a water surge.
Due to the rising temperatures and the increased glacial melt, the water level in the river has been increasing day-by-day, which has also hindered the search for the women’s bodies. However, police checkpoints at Kohala, Azad Pattan and Mangla Dam have been informed about the incident, the police added.
