FAISALABAD:

A second-year student is saying he was tortured in custody in Toba Tek Singh.

Muhammad Tariq, a resident of Sharif Colony told the media on Saturday that his nephew, Muhammad Ali, a resident of Chak 229-GB, had been tortured by ASI Javed Masih apparently on account of an earlier grudge.

He said the two men had an exchange of harsh words on May 11 when Ali was not allowed to enter a polling station.

Tariq said, “On Friday, Masih and two constables, Muhammad Waseem and Muhammad Asghar, arrested Ali from his home and took him to the police station.”

“They detained him illegally and subjected him to severe torture,” said Tariq.

He said the City police had registered his complaint but no one had been arrested so far. He said he was being pressured by police to settle for a compromise and not pursue the case.

“I complained to the Toba Tek Singh DPO who ordered the registration of a case against the police officials involved,” he said.

Tariq said the area magistrate had ordered a medical examination of Ali. The reports, he said, showed Ali had been tortured.

Toba Tek Singh SHO told The Express Tribune “the police have registered a case under Sections 337(K), 337(L)2, 342 and 34 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against ASI Javed Masih and Constables Muhammad Waseem and Muhammad Asghar.”

He said police were looking for them. “They would soon be arrested,” he said.
