A case had been registered against Wassan for killing a worker of PML-F.

MNA Nawab Hassan escapes from court after his interim bail is denied.

SUKKUR:

The Pakistan Peoples Party MNA Nawab Wassan escaped from the court on Saturday after the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) rejected his interim bail in a murder case registered by a leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional on May 11.

A fight had broken out between workers of both parties during polling at the Mumtaz College Khairpur on May 11. According to PML-F, MNA Wassan reached the site and opened fire due to which PML-F’s Abdul Wahab Morejo was killed and seven others, including a party leader and former taluka Nazim Khairpur Tahir Imtiaz Phulpoto, were injured.

A case was registered against Wassan at the A section police station, Khairpur and was challaned in ATC. The accused had filed an application in the Sindh High Court, Karachi for bail before arrest and the court had granted him interim bail till June 1. Since Wassan was in Islamabad on June 1 for the oath-taking ceremony, the court had fixed the hearing for June 8.

On Saturday, workers of both parties were present at the court, along with MNA Wassan and the petitioner Tahir Imtiaz Phulpoto. Justice Syed Saeed Hassan, after hearing both the parties, rejected the interim bail of Wassan who immediately came out of the court, saying that his bail had been extended and escaped with his guards.

Following the incident, armed men started aerial firing due to which business activities throughout the city were suspended. Hundreds of PML-F’s workers, led by Phulpoto, gathered outside the SSP office at the old national highway and protested against the MNA’s escape, accusing the police of providing protection to Wassan.

Workers of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz also protested against the incident by blocking the National Highway
