SUKKUR:
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNA Nawab Wassan managed to escape after a judge of the Khairpur Anti-Terrorism Court rejected his interim bail in a murder case filed by a Pakistan Muslim League – Functional (PML-F) leader on May 11.

A scuffle had taken place between PPP and PML-F at Mumtaz College over allegations of rigging during polling on May 11. Wassan had arrived at the scene of the scuffle and opened fire, as a result of which PML-F worker Abdul Wahab Morejo was killed and seven others, including party leader and former taluka nazim Khairpur Tahir Imtiaz Phulpoto, were injured.

A case against Nawab Wassan was registered at “A” section police station Khairpur and was challaned in the Anti-Terrorism Court.

The PPP MNA had filed an application for bail before arrest in the Sindh High Court (SHC) and he was granted interim bail till June 1. According to reports, Wassan was in Islamabad for taking oath on June and the court had fixed the hearing for June 8.

Besides Wassan and Phulpoto, a large number of PPP and PML-F workers had also gathered at the Anti-Terrorism Court today.

Judge Syed Saeed Hassan after hearing both parties at length rejected Wassan’s interim bail, who immediately came out of the court stating that his bail had been extended and sped away with his guards. It was later revealed that the bail had been rejected.

Unidentified men later resorted to aerial firing, which resulted in the suspension of business activities in the city.

Hundreds of PML-F workers, led by Phulpoto, gathered outside the SSP office at Old National Highway and protested. The protesters were reported to be shouting slogans against the police, who they claimed were protecting Wassan.
