The Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) will soon decide upon its nominee for the post of Balochistan governor.
According to sources, the party’s central secretary general, Akram Shah, is likely to be nominated for the slot.
However, three other politicians Nawab Ayaz Jogezai, Dr Kalimullah Khan and Dr Hamid Achakzai – PkMAP chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai’s younger brother – are also in with a chance.
When asked, Akram Shah said the party’s central executive committee would take a final decision on the matter. Shah did not deny the likelihood of his nomination. However, Jogezai and Dr Kalimullah have little chances of being nominated by the party, according to Shah.
Shah, 59, has previously served as a senator between 1994 and 1999. A graduate of SM Science College, Karachi, he was an office-bearer of the Pashtun Students Organisation during his student years.
Meanwhile, a source in PkMAP maintained there could be a fifth contender for governorship as well. Admitting that he was unaware as to whose name was being considered in addition to Shah, Jogezai, Dr Kalimullah and Hamid Achakzai, he said the party would consider several names due to its policy.
Party sources have also said that Hamid Achakzai may be included in Dr Abdul Malik’s cabinet as well.
