Facilitating Mobility: Lowari Pass opened post winter closure
Locals have to suffer as their movement is restricted with the pass opening only thrice a week.
CHITRAL:
The Lowari Pass, located at more than 10,000 feet, was reopened on Thursday for all types of vehicles after a period of five months.
The top was closed for traffic after heavy snowfall in the middle of December last year. The pass connects Chitral with Dir and is the shortest route for residents travelling to Peshawar. Every year the pass closes to majority of traffic owing to heavy snowfall and avalanche fears. Locals have to suffer as their movement is restricted with the pass opening only thrice a week. The snow removing task was given to the army’s engineers battalion that successfully reopened Lowari Pass for all types of vehicular traffic after six months.
