Power generation: KMC plans to remedy power crisis through garbage
A study for a comprehensive plan for generating energy from garbage would be completed in three months, says Zaidi.

Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Administrator Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi has said that a study is under way for a comprehensive plan for generating energy from garbage and would be completed in three months so that, along with disposal of garbage through scientific methods, it could be used for valuable to remedy the power crisis. He said this during a meeting with British consulting company’s consultant Richard Cook.
Zaidi said that energy was being generated from garbage in developed countries and those countries have built an integrated and effective system of solid waste management in their big cities. Over 10,000 tons of garbage is generated per day in Karachi, he claimed. Consultant Richard Cook during the meeting informed about details of the Solid Waste Management System study and said that a comprehensive report about using garbage for power generation should be prepared to attract foreign investors for the project.
