Accommodating Ramazan: Shandur Polo Festival dates changed

The festival will be hosted between July 2 and 4 instead of July 7 and 9.

CHITRAL:
The highest polo ground of the world in Chitral, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa hosts the Shandur Polo Festival every year in July. This year, it the festival is being moved forward to accommodate for Ramazan. 

The festival, which is usually hosted between July 7 and 9, will now be held from July 2 to4 at the polo ground located 12,500 feet above sea level.


The Tourism Corporation K-P (TCKP) announced the decision to bring festival forward after a meeting on Tuesday.

The Managing Director TCKP said “The Shandur Polo Festival not only provides entertainment for the tourists but also generates a lot of revenues for the locals of the area".

The festival is expected to have teams from Gilgit and Chitral and will host a variety of cultural performances and activities like paragliding, horse riding and mountaineering.
