Balochistan CM to be elected on June 9: Jamali
Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch has been nominated for the post.
QUETTA:
Speaker Balochistan Assembly Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali said on Tuesday that elections for the provincial chief minister will be elected on June 9.
He was speaking at a session of the Provincial Assembly.
Jamali stressed that all legislators should ensure their presence during the session on June 9 so that a CM could be elected.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (Pk-MAP), National Party (NP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-N) have nominated NP president Dr Abdul Malik Baloch for the post.
Prime Minister-elect Nawaz Sharif had announced the nomination in a joint press conference in Murree on Sunday. The PML-N, despite having most seats in the provincial assembly has given the slot to NP.
Earlier a petition, co-signed by 172 organisations and individuals, along with two consortiums with 220-member organisations, demanded that Baloch be made the next chief minister of Balochistan.
To restore peace in Balochistan, petitioners said, it is important to hand over the reins of government to a person who is trustworthy.
