NEW YORK: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that the country's commitment to fighting terrorism remains unshaken.

He was addressing the 65th session of the United Nations General Assembly session in New York.
“Our national consensus and resolve to fight extremism and terrorism remains unshaken”, he said adding that “we cannot accept the stereotyping of Muslims as terrorists.”

Speaking in connection with the Kashmir dispute, the foreign minister said Pakistan is seeking a UN resolution to resolve the issue.

He said that “the Jammu and Kashmir dispute is about the exercise of the right to self-determination by the Kashmiri people through a free, fair and impartial plebiscite under the UN auspices” and that “the human rights of the Kashmiri people must be respected” indicating that Pakistan is ready for a dialogue with India on the Kashmir issue.

He stressed that Kashmir is one of the oldest disputes on the UN agenda and its resolution is vital for long-lasting peace in South Asia.

Qureshi said that despite the fact that millions of people have been affected by floods in Pakistan, the country is still determined to eradicate militancy.
