HANGU:
Three police officials were severely injured when an armoured personnel carrier (APC) plunged into a roadside ravine in Darband, Hangu on Saturday.
DSP Hussain Badshah said the incident occurred around 5pm when Hangu police officials were returning after conducting a search operation on the outskirts of the city. He explained heavy contingents of police had gone to Samana, a mountainous area in the district, to conduct raids against suspects and proclaimed offenders.
While returning, an APC, which was part of the police convoy, took a sharp turn near the district levies check post and fell into the gorge. The DSP said the APC was completely destroyed. Other police officials rushed to the spot to rescue the three officials trapped in the vehicle.
APC driver Mir Abbas, Musharraf and Samiullah were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital where they were administered first aid. Abbas was later referred to the Lady Reading Hospital due to his critical condition.
