Russia is the latest country to have been approached for the reduction of import duties on Pakistani textile products.
The country has been approached right after the European Union approved such concessions in principle to jumpstart the stuttering economy in the wake of catastrophic floods.
The proposal was made by the Pakistani delegation during the Pak-Russia Inter-government Commissioners meeting, which was part of the 35th federal trade fair in the country.
Minister of State for Economic Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar and Secretary of Trade Zafar Mehmood were representing the Pakistani delegation. The delegation underscored the economic devastation in the country in the aftermath of the floods and requested a reduction in the tariff and duties on Pakistani textile imports into the country.
The delegation offered provision of education to Russian students regarding the textile sector and their Russian counterparts requested access to Pakistani investors to highlight investment opportunities in Russia. The delegation also highlighted the difficulties faced by local exporters in collecting payments from the Eurasian country.
