BAHAWALPUR:

Police on Thursday arrested three men, who had deprived a wheat broker of Rs1 million in Rahim Yar Khan a few weeks ago. The stolen money was recovered and some weapons seized.

Police said the master-mind of the mugging turned out to be the victim’s close friend of the victim.

Addressing a press conference, District Police Officer Sohail Habib Tajik said that on May 6, Muhammad Ilyas informed the Abadpur police that he had been deprived of Rs1 million at gunpoint near Rajanpur Kalan shortly after he withdrew the money from a bank. He said his friend Afzal Bohar was with him at the time. He said three men had stopped them and taken away the money.

The DPO said that the police had wanted to question Bohar, but Ilyas had stopped them.

The investigation officers, however, monitored Bohar on their own and later discovered that he had been the master-mind. Police arrested two suspects who revealed that they worked for Bohar. They told police that they also had another accomplice.
