Mass transit: Chief secretary wants report prepared by today

Chief secretary asks for joint report on Bus Rapid Transit System and the Karachi Circular Railway.

Sindh chief secretary Muhammad Ijaz Chaudhry asked the Karachi Urban Transport Company (KUTC) and Karachi Mass Transit Programme to prepare a joint report on the Bus Rapid Transit System and the Karachi Circular Railway by today (Thursday) so that they can send requests to the provincial and federal government for their support.


The participants also discussed the rail and road-based mass transit project identified in a study by the Japan International Consulting Agency.

The rail route will pass through New Sabzi Mandi to Tower via MA Jinnah Road and Nagan Chowrangi to Singer Chowrangi in Korangi via Rashid Minhas Road, while the road route will go to Juma Goth Market from Surjani via Nazimabad and from Malir Cantt to Regal Chowk via the University Road.

The meeting was attended by additional chief secretary Arif Ahmed Khan, finance secretary Suhail Rajput, transport secretary M.B. Kalhoro, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation administrator Hashim Raza Zaidi and KUTC managing director Sher Ayaz.
