LAHORE:
Witnesses – in a case filed by the mother of a missing woman – have been called to record their statements in front of an additional district and sessions judge on May 31.
The judge fixed the date on Monday. The case involves the alleged kidnapping of a young woman by three people who posed as agents looking for actors.
The petitioner has asked the court to direct the police to arrest the suspects she has identified and to recover her daughter.
According to the FIR, registered by Yasmeen Bibi – the mother of the woman kidnapped – she had accompanied her daughter to Shahnoor Studios, in reply to a newspaper ad for actors. At the studios, they had met Muhammad Shahbaz, Javed Wattoo and Nida Bibi (the three suspects named in the case) who had asked her daughter to fill in an application form. They had then asked them to return a few days later.
When they did, the three asked Yasmeen Bibi to leave her daughter with them and to pick her up after a week-long training.
When Yasmeen Bibi went to pick her daughter, however, the agency office had been cleared out and there was no sign of her daughter.
According to her, two men – whom she identified as Tariq and Kashif – told her to accompany them to a house where they claimed her daughter was being kept.
Once there, they demanded Rs20,000 saying that Shahbaz and Wattoo had abducted her daughter and would sell her if she did not pay the ransom. She said she gave them the money but then they too disappeared.
Wattoo was declared a court absconder on September 19, 2012.
