Healthier lifestyle: Dow starts weight-loss surgery
Bariatric surgery was the only mode of operation that provided significant weight loss for the patient.

The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), recently performed bariatric (weight reduction) surgery at its Ojha Campus on three male and two female patients aged between 19 and 52 years.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, DUHS vice-chancellor Prof. Hameed Khan described obesity as a major health problem and a contributing factor to several other diseases. He added that bariatric surgery was the only mode of operation that provided significant weight loss for the patient.
The DUHS programme included a multidisciplinary approach with endocrinologists, nutritionists and bariatric surgeons working together as a unit to plan the best treatment for an individual. Bariatric surgeon Prof. Dr Muhammad Jawaid said that approximately 22 per cent males and 27 per cent females were suffering from obesity in Pakistan for whom this procedure could could make a world of difference.
