Road accident: US embassy car kills pedestrian on 7th Avenue

ISLAMABAD:
A US embassy vehicle ran over a 65-year-old man on Islamabad’s 7th Avenue in the juridiction of Aabpara Police Station on Friday.
Talking to The Express Tribune, investigation officer Sub-inspector Khalid said Mehmud, a resident of Kotli Sattiyan, was crossing the road when he was run over by the speeding car.
He said the security guard of the diplomat took the injured to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) where he was declared dead upon arrival.
He stated that the relatives of the deceased had not immediately filed a police complaint against the US diplomat. The security staff of the diplomat, identified as Monica, took her to the American embassy.
The US embassy issued a press release stating that an accredited US diplomat was involved in a road accident at approximately 8:30 AM on Friday on 7th Avenue where the embassy employee’s vehicle collided with a pedestrian.
“Tragically, the pedestrian died as a result of his injuries. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family affected by this tragedy.” The press release stated that the embassy will cooperate fully with the appropriate Pakistani authorities on the investigation and will work through with local insurance company to address financial questions or concerns of those affected.
On February 14 of this year, an official vehicle of the US embassy was involved in an accident with two motorcyclists which resulted in one’s death and severely injuring the other.
The issue was resolved later through a financial settlement between the embassy and the deceased rider’s family.
