Infrastructure: Ministry reiterates importance of Diamer Bhasha Dam

The Diamer Bhasha Dam project is a “life-line” for national economy which would help meet country’s future agricultural and power requirements, said officials of the Ministry of Water and Power.
Talking to the press on Friday, an official of the ministry said that the Diamer Basha Dam had three important objectives including flood mitigation, power generation and water storage for agriculture. In response to a question, he said the dam which will be built on the Indus River will generate 4,500 megawatts of electricity annually and enhance the life of Tarbela Dam, which is located downstream of the Diamer Bhasha dam, by over 35 years.
