Celebrations marred: Five injured in aerial firing

Injured were rushed to District Headquarter Hospital where their condition was said to be stable, says Police.

At least five people were injured as a result of aerial firing at a programme held to observe Yaum-e-Wiladat of Hazrat Ali in an imambargah in Kat Gar, Paharpur tehsil, DI Khan on Friday.



An official of Paharpur police station said the accused, identified as Mehraban, fired in the air with a pistol at the gathering. As a result five people identified as Fakher Abbas, Murtaza Hussain, Kazim Hussain, Agha Hussain and Ghulam Abbas were injured.

They were rushed to District Headquarter Hospital where their condition was said to be stable, said the official. He added the incident did not seem to be intentional; it occurred because of the mishandling of the weapon by Mehraban. However, police will carry out an investigation, he informed. Mehraban was arrested from the spot and an FIR has been filed against him under Section 337H of the Pakistan Penal Code. He is a resident of Wanda Dost Ali and was also participating in the programme.
