Law department: Reinstate all 20 law officers, says LHC
The petitioners had submitted that the caretaker government had acted beyond its mandate by removing the lawyers.
LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court on Thursday ordered the Law Department to reinstate the law officers removed by the caretaker government. The petitioners submitted that the Lahore High Court had on May 15 declared the notification terminating 20 law officers as illegal, but the government had not reinstated them. The advocate general submitted that the court had issued the order on a petition moved by three of the removed law officers and they had been reinstated. The court then directed the Law Department to also reinstate the other law officers. The petitioners had submitted that the caretaker government had acted beyond its mandate by removing the lawyers. Further, the government had ignored Supreme Court judgements with respect to appointments in autonomous regulatory bodies. The Election Commission of Pakistan had also banned appointments and transfers.
