KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed the authorities to consider the request of two Awami National Party leaders for adequate security as permissible under the law.

Saleem Khan Jadoon and Sarfaraz Khan Jadoon told the judges that they were given a security escort for electioneering on the directions of the election commission but the police withdrew it as soon as the elections were over.

The two petitioners requested the court to direct the home department to provide them security on a permanent basis as there was a grave threat to their lives.

The judges disposed of their plea on Wednesday after DIG West Fareed Ahmed told the court that the security has been withdrawn from all candidates irrespective of their party affiliations.

The chief justice, Mushir Alam, directed that the petitioners may request for security and the authorities should take measures as prescribed by the law.
