Anti-encroachment: Traders protest against district govt

District government officials said that the shopkeepers had violated the agreement.

MULTAN: Shopkeepers in the Dehli Gate area protested against the district government’s anti-encroachment drive on Tuesday. The protesters blocked the road by burning tyres. They said a day after the district officers had marked the road for where they could keep their carts and stalls. On Tuesday, they said, though the stalls were kept within the defined limits, the district officials had seized their stalls and carts for alleged violation. They shopkeepers were also fined between Rs10,000 and Rs50,000. The protesters dispersed after a police team, headed by City SP Naeemul Hasan, visited the scene. District government officials said that the shopkeepers had violated the agreement.
