QUETTA:
The provincial president of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Mir Saddiq Umrani on Tuesday resigned from his party membership on account of grievances against the party leadership and what he claimed were less than free general elections.

Talking to journalists, Umrani said that he had tendered his resignation to Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and President Asif Ali Zardari. He further said that some party members had disrupted party affairs which led to his resignation.

“In 2008 when the party came into power, the party leadership didn’t take any positive steps to resolve the Balochistan issue and the actual party leaders, who had sacrificed a great deal for the party were ignored,” Umrani explained.

The former PPP Balochistan chief said that the ineffective policies of PPP had cost them National Assembly seats in Balochistan.

He also accused the Election Commission of Pakistan of changing the final result of PB-28, which led to his defeat in the polls.

He added that many of polling stations came under attack in his constituency and voters were kept away from polling stations, saying that 90% of women were kept away from voting and he had registered FIR s in many police stations.

“Elections in Balochistan were not free and fair and I cannot continue to work on party matters. Therefore, I'm resigning,” said Umrani.
