Yawar Saeed resigns as Pakistan cricket team manager

According to a statement by Pakistan Cricket Board, Saeed has resigned as manager of the Pakistan cricket team.

Yawar Saeed has resigned as manager of the Pakistan cricket team, according to a statement released by  Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday.

The statement said that PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt has accepted Saeed’s resignation.

“I will not take charge as manager of the national team again,” Saeed was quoted as saying by local television channels.

News of his resignation emerged during Pakistan’s recently concluded tumultuous tour of England but he denied them, saying it was the job of the PCB chief to decide his future.

The report of the resignation has come in the wake of match-fixing allegations that have rocked the cricketing world this month.

The scandal led to the suspension of star cricketers Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamir. Scotland Yard is conducting an investigation into the allegations that say that the three cricketers were involved in spot-fixing during the series that is being played against England this month.

According to a Hindustan Times report from last month, Saeed had said that he wanted to step down from his position after the current tour ended, as he was looking to do something new after serving the national team for 26 years.
