Post-election fiasco: ECP orders recounting in NA-19 Haripur

Accepting a request filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidate Omar Ayub Khan, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has ordered recounting in the NA-19 Haripur constituency.
Omar Ayub filed the request after losing against a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate in the May 11 polls.
On Thursday, the ECP also reversed its earlier decision of re-counting in NA-57 from where PML-N’s Sheikh Aftab was declared winner in the unofficial results. PTI’s Amin Aslam had approached ECP for a recount. In response Sheikh Aftab challenged this decision in the high court stating that the ECP had taken the decision without hearing his side. The ECP on Friday annulled its decision and said that no re-count would take place in this constituency.
It also rejected a plea by Muttahida Deeni Mahaz candidate Maulana Ahmed Ludhanvi for a recount in NA-89 Jhang.
The poll body separately also issued directives to hold re-polls in six polling stations of the provincial assembly seat, PS- 128, where voting was halted after twin-blasts in Qaidabad, killing 12 people and injuring over 30 others on May 11.
The polling will be held in Razi Market, Bismillah Colony, Tauheedabad, Daud Chali and Firdous Chali areas.
