The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government on Wednesday banned the use of cellphones in all government colleges across the region. 


According to an order issued by Education Minister for Colleges Matloob Inqilabi, the students, lecturers and professors have been barred from using cellphones during college hours.

All the college principals have been asked to strictly ensure the implementation of the order. Furthermore, the minister said that anyone found violating the order would be penalised.


The decision was taken in a meeting attended by the education secretary, senior officers of Directorate of Colleges and Government Postgraduate College principal.



While speaking to The Express Tribune, the minister said the ban was imposed to ensure that the academic schedule is followed without interruptions.

He also asked the government college professors not to take classes in private institutions and universities during the official college timing.

The minister said the decisions would help to show good result which is vital to strengthen the education sector. Meanwhile, parents have appreciated the move, demanding the government to also ban the use of mobile phones in govt schools.
