‘Polyandry’: Two men claim to be husbands of the same woman

Passers-by watched for hours as two men argued with each other claiming to be husbands of the same woman.
Police said Nadia Bibi* had married Saleem Shah* n 2012. She left him in January 2013 and married Muhammad Bilal*.
However, a few weeks ago, she returned to Shah and filed a complaint against Bilal saying that he had forcibly taken her away.
On Tuesday, when she and Shah were on their way home, Bilal stopped them at Allahabad Chowk near Indus Highway and told Nadia Bibi to return with him.
When Shah told him to leave, an argument followed.
Shah said that Nadia Bibi was his wife, while Bilal claimed to be her husband. The argument led to an exchange of blows when both the men started pulling Nadia Bibi away.
Some one called the police and the three were taken to the police station.
There Nadia Bibi told police that she had eloped with Bilal after she was forcibly married to Shah.
But, she said, Bilal used to beat her often and so she returned to Shah.
Bilal said he had married Nadia Bibi after Shah divorced her.
He said “she leaves home every other day and I bring her back”.
Nadia Bibi was allowed to go with Shah after she told police that he had not divorced her. Police told her to present her marriage certificate by Wednesday (today).
