Altaf’s statement: ‘I don’t want Karachi to separate’

I never talked about separating Karachi from Pakistan in my telephonic address on Sunday, said Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain, through a news statement issued on Monday.
The MQM chief said that he was both misunderstood and misreported, while condemning all those who accused him of trying to “break the country”. In a telephonic address to MQM supporters in Karachi, Altaf had lashed out against protesters belonging to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the election commission and the media. In Monday’s statement, he paid tribute to the election commission.
Those who desire proof may obtain a CD of the address from Nine Zero, the MQM headquarters in Karachi, listen to the speech in context, and then pass judgments, said Altaf. He said that he can never think of dividing a country for whose creation his ancestors had sacrificed their lives.
Alluding to PTI protesters, Altaf said that they were creating problems for the masses and should adopt legal ways to lodge their complaints.
He also congratulated the nation over timely elections.
