Elections: Interior Ministry calls in 2,000 more troops for Karachi
"Everyone is on his toe in Karachi."
Interior Ministry has further enhanced security for Karachi city by calling 2,000 more troops today at emergence basis. Interior Secretary Javed Iqbal told The Express Tribune that he talked to Chief Secretary Sindh and arranged maximum security for Karachi at 11am today.
The decision was taken after PM Khoso directions to Interior Minister Malik Habib for calling more security personnel for the city. In this regard, Malik talked to Corps Commander Karachi today.
"Everyone is on his toe in Karachi," he said. Maximum steps have been taken to provide security to voters in Balochistan as well, he added.
Prime Minister Justice (R) Mir Hazar Khan Khoso is in constant touch with Federal and Provincial authorities and is personally keeping a close watch over the conduct of elections in the entire country. In this connection the Prime Minister contacted Chief Minister Punjab, Mr. Najam Sethi, Chief Minister Sindh Justice (R) Zahid Qurban Alvi, Chief Minister KPK, Justice (R) Tariq Pervez Khan, Chief Minister Balochistan, Nawab Ghous Bakhsh Barozai, Federal Minister of Interior and Malik Habib Khan.
Prime Minister enquired from the Chief Ministers about the voter turnout and the law and order situation. The Chief Ministers apprised the Prime Minister that the voters of all age groups including women had turned up in big numbers and that law and order situation was generally under control. The Prime Minister also spoke to the Minister for Interior to enquire about the measures taken by the law enforcement agencies after reports of untoward incidents at some places in the country.
