The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government on Friday conferred magisterial powers upon deputy commissioners, assistant deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners and additional assistant commissioners for Friday and Saturday (today).
A statement issued by the Home and Tribal Affairs Department said the officials were conferred temporary magisterial powers following the directions of the provincial chapter of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
“In pursuance of instructions issued by the provincial commission to exercise powers under Section 14 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1898 (Act of 1898) and with due concurrence of the Peshawar High Court, the K-P government is pleased to confer one time powers of Magistrate First Class upon deputy commissioners, assistant deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners and additional assistant commissioners,” read the notification.
It added the Magistrate First Class powers were conferred upon the said officials throughout the province for the purpose of maintaining law and order in their respective jurisdictions during the general elections.
