A pro-government militia volunteer was killed on Friday when a bomb planted by him at a check post exploded in the remote Bukarh area of Landikotal subdivision, Khyber Agency. Shaz Muhammad Khan, an official of the political administration, said Muhammad Zakha Khel was planting a bomb at a check post in the mountainous area of Kata Kanray. He explained Muhammad was placing the bomb in order to prevent Lashkar-e-Islam militants from occupying the check post, adding the device exploded unexpectedly, killing Muhammad on the spot. Meanwhile, security forces defused two rockets planted by unidentified militants to target the Frontier Constabulary cantonment area in the tehsil. Security officials said militants had planted two rockets near the shrine of Hamza Baba.
