Independent candidate killed in Karachi

KARACHI:
An independent candidate Shakil Ahmed, who actively worked for the Mohajir Qaumi Movement Haqiqi (MQM-H), was killed in a shoot out with another group in Landhi area, on Friday.

Ahmed was provincial assembly candidate standing for PS-95 constituency situated in Orangi Town and was memeber of the Orangi Town sector committe, the MQM-H spokesperson Khalid Hameedi informed The Express Tribune.

Earlier the Election commission had disqualified him but later he submitted his papers again as independent candidate, spokesperson further said.


The victim was resident of Sherpao Colony in Landhi, as the Orangi Town is a no go area for any activist of the MQM-H.

Firing was reported in Landhi earlier Friday morning.

With the death of the candidate, there is a chance that elections in the constituency may be postponed.

Earlier on May 3, at least two people were wounded and a taxi was set on fire during a clash between the MQM and the MQM-H in Landhi.
