Punjab achieves 16% of cotton sowing target

Punjab has achieved 16% of the cotton sowing targets fixed for the sowing season 2013 to meet the domestic requirements of the commodity and exports.
This year sowing is 16% higher than that during the same period of last year, said Cotton Development Commissioner in the Ministry of Textile Industry, Dr Khalid Abdullah. Dr Abdullah said that till May 6, cotton crops have been cultivated on over 987,756 acres, up from 928,305 acres during same period of last year.
He informed that the Federal Cotton Committee (FCC) had fixed a target of 6 million acres for cotton cultivation in the province during current sowing season.
The FCC ordered to cultivate cotton on 4999.56 acres in core areas, while over 778.151 acres will be cultivated in non-core areas, and 221.835 acres are fixed for marginal areas.
