Mardan politicking: ANP activist, minor injured in firing by PPP workers
Police says a fight erupted when an ANP activist refused to take down his party flag.
KATLANG:
An Awami National Party (ANP) worker along with a minor and a pedestrian were injured in firing by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) activists in Katlang, Mardan on Sunday.
An official of Katlang police said PPP workers from PK-29 were holding a corner meeting in Kunj for candidate Abdul Akbar Khan. Before Khan was meant to arrive, PPP activists went to the house of an ANP worker, Khalid Khan, and asked him to take down his party flag, adding that the neighbourhood was a PPP stronghold.
A fight ensued when Khalid refused to take down the flag after which PPP workers, Rahimdad, Rafiq, Hayat Khan and Zain, opened fire. Khalid and his nephew Amir came in the line of fire along with a truck driver who had parked his vehicle nearby and was loading wheat bales.
The accused took the injured driver to a hospital, while the other two were taken to Mardan Medical Complex.
The official further added that both party workers were trying to suppress the incident by saying it occurred due to a dispute among children. Cases were filed against the accused, who managed to escape.
