BAHAWALPUR:

A man was beaten up and his nose cut by 10 people on Saturday for turning down a marriage proposal for his sister that he had earlier accepted.

Saddar police said that Zahid Hussain, a resident of Ghausiabad, Rahim Yar Khan, had accepted Mumtaz Ahmad’s proposal for his sister.  However, due to some family dispute he later backed out. This had led to a rivalry between him and Ahmad, who with 10 accomplices beat Hussain and his father on their way home on Saturday night.

They later cut Hussain’s nose with a barber’s blade and fled. The injured man was taken to a hospital, where he was later reported to be in critical condition. Witnesses said the assailants shot several times in the air before they fled. Police said they were looking for them.
