RAWALPINDI:

Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Special Public Prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali, who was allegedly killed for pursuing the Benazir Bhutto murder case, was buried at his hometown of Kotha Sawaria in Jhelum on Saturday.

No Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) representative or leader attended his funeral, at which senior FIA officials and lawyers were present.

Ali had been persistently pursuing the case, whose list of accused included the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, two police officials and former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf.

None of the accused were criticised by the PPP leadership during its term in power.

“My father had no personal animosity with anyone as he was a professional lawyer who concentrated solely on his profession,” said Ali’s elder son Chaudhry Nisar.

He said his father was brutally gunned down for aggressively pursuing the murder case.

Nisar, while speaking to The Express Tribune after the funeral, demanded an immediate arrest of the killers, who he said needed to be brought to book.

The funeral prayers were offered under tight security, with a contingent of Jhelum police deployed at the scene.
