A man killed his wife and infant son on Friday before slitting his own throat with a knife. He was shifted to hospital where doctors saved his life. Police said the man was mentally instable and committed the crime in a fit of rage.
Shabbir Ahmed, a security guard, killed his wife, Zahida Bibi, and his one-year-old son, Faizan, in Sector F-6/1, the police said. According to the police, Ahmed was from Mansehra district and had been living with his family in the servant quarter of a house in Sector F-6 since 2011.
Investigation Officer Muhammad Arshad told The Express Tribune that neighbours informed the police about the incident. When the police reached the scene, they found the woman and child dead in a pool of blood. Ahmed was nearby and still alive. They shifted him to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, where doctors saved his life.
“Ahmed often used to visit the local cleric for exorcisms...he even went for one this morning,” neighbours informed the police. They also said Bibi had been worried by Ahmed’s deteriorating mental health. Locals told the police that the house was owned by Dr Tabinda Manzoor, who died last year. Dr Manzoor’s family is settled abroad and Ahmed’s family had stayed on in the house.
The police have registered a murder case against Ahmed but have not yet recorded his statement as his injury has left him unable to speak
This is the second such incident in three days. On Wednesday, a man allegedly shot dead his wife and two daughters before committing suicide in Sector I-10/2.
