FAISALABAD:

Three Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidates were charged for violation in NA-85, PP-71 and PP-72 on Friday.

Station House Officer Inspector Masood Nazir of the Ghulam Muhammadabad police station told The Express Tribune that Malik Sardar Muhammad, a candidate in NA-85, and Adeel Taj and Nazia Shakeel in PP-71 and PP-72, respectively had held corner meetings without permission from the ECP. The meetings, he said, were followed by rallies.

The SHO said that all three had been charged under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (disobedience, defiance of [government] order). Penalties for such a violation include imprisonment or fine or both. No one was arrested, the SHO added.

Later talking to The Express Tribune, Muhammad denied the allegation. He said the meeting had been held after obtaining ECP permission.
