ECP finalises security plan for general elections

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) finalised the security plan, deciding to deploy security forces on May 10 in polling stations across Pakistan, Express News reported on Wednesday.
There will be seven security personnel deployed on most sensitive polling stations, five on moderately sensitive and four on the remaining.
The army will only be utilised as a quick response force in emergency with 20 to 30 personnel in each squad. About 30,000 soldiers in total will be deployed, Radio Pakistan reported.
Human Rights Watch urged the interim government, on April 29, to use law enforcement agencies or if need be, the army to ensure the security of political parties and candidates from militant attacks.
The ECP has recently taken various steps to ensure foolproof security on general election day.
Forty instructors trained by foreign experts have begun training police officers who will serve on election duty, said a press release from Punjab Police.
