JAMRUD:

Muhammad Uzaifa, the 10-day-old infant who was suspected to have been kidnapped from Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) earlier this month, was found following a raid conducted in Jamrud, Khyber Agency on Tuesday.

Naib Tehsildar Mullagori Shakeel Khan said after receiving a tip-off, he led a team to a house in Mullagori where the infant was thought to be kept. The official further said the alleged captor, identified as Muhammad Zaman, a resident of the area, was also apprehended in the operation. Khan added the infant was returned to his parents after he was safely recovered.

The infant was allegedly abducted on the night of April 22 from the LRH’s gynecology ward by a woman disguised as a hospital nurse. Sheheryar, the child’s father, claimed hospital staff had been involved in the crime.

However, the hospital administration later claimed there was no case of kidnapping as the child was taken with the mother’s consent. According to a hospital spokesperson, CCTV footage showed the infant’s mother was accompanied by two attendants who informed her of what had happened after a veiled woman took the child away.
