UVAS signs research proposal

A MoU has been signed between the UVAS and the Pakistan Dairy Development Company (PDDC).

LAHORE:
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) and the Pakistan Dairy Development Company (PDDC). The MoU was signed by the UVAS vice chancellor, Prof Muhammad Nawaz, and PDDC chief executive Mian Mazhar Watto Ahmad on Friday.

The MoU aims to pursue a programme of research and technical collaboration in the field of dairy sector for improving the quality and quantity of milk production. It plans to introduce the best dairy practices to increase incomes of the small and medium farmers, including women by increasing milk production.

It also commits the University post graduate research in breeding better varieties of fodder crops, fodder conservation, and animal husbandry.


Watto said that UVAS would produce skilled human resource in the field of livestock. “PDDC will identify research topics and research station sites across the country and UVAS faculty and students will be associated with the work.

Prof Nawaz said that only 3 per cent of the 33 billion litres milk produced in Pakistan was processed and marketed properly.

Seventy-one per cent of the milk comes from the rural areas and 29 per cent from the urban areas.
