IIUI VP’s appointment: Court reserves judgement
“For contractual appointments rules do not apply like for regular appointments,” says Rehman's counsel.
ISLAMABAD:
Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday reserved its judgement regarding the appointment of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) vice president, which was challenged by representatives of the varsity’s staff.
The petitioners’ counsel informed Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui that Rehman was appointed as vice president in October 2011 for two years on contract without a recommendation from the selection board.
Members of University Staff Welfare Association had challenged the appointment of IIUI Vice President Sajid Rehman in October 2012 because he had not come through a competitive hiring process. Rehman’s counsel insisted IIUI’s rector and president was the sole authority for appointing the vice president. Since my client was appointed on contract there is no need for the selection committee’s approval, he added. “For contractual appointments rules do not apply like for regular appointments,” he argued.
