FAISALABAD: Allied Hospital nurses having private jobs have been directed to give up private jobs until May 1 and submit an undertaking in this regard. Otherwise, disciplinary action would be taken against them.

Allied Hospital Medical Superintendent Rashid Maqbool announced this on Sunday.

He said complaints were being received that the nurses were not properly attending the patients.

He said it had been learnt that nurses having two jobs were frequently too tired to attend patients effeciently.

He said: “It was decided in a meeting of the hospital administration that the nursing staff should be directed to stop their private jobs and pay attention to the patients admitted to the Allied Hospital. The nurses have been asked to submit an undertaking that they have no other jobs by May 1, 2013.”

“After the dead line, strict action would be taken against nurses failing to submit the undertaking,” he said, adding that such nurses might also be removed from the jobs.

Nurses have protested against what they called discrimination against them.

Deputy Chief Nursing Superintendent Parveen said several Allied Hospital doctors too had been working at various clinics and hospitals, but the hospital administration had not tried to stop them.

She also said the patients who needed prompt treatment needed the attention of doctors, not nurses.

She said about 100 nurses had deposited undertakings that they had no other job. But no similar undertaking had been demanded from the doctors, she said.
