Two suspected militants were arrested and a huge cache of arms were recovered in a police raid on a house in Jaghor, Chitral city, on Saturday.


An official of the city police said officials carried out a raid based on intelligence information claiming a few suspected militants were trying to carry out violent activities during election campaigns. Two men, identified as Muhammad Ghayas and Shujjaur Rahman, were arrested in the operation.


The official explained two AK-47s, three pistols, a hand grenade and a gun along with hundreds of bullets were seized during the raid, adding the accused were shifted to a police station for further investigations.

According to the official, initial investigations revealed the suspects were planning to attack the election gatherings in the city.

The official added further investigations, which would reveal more about the suspects’ plans, were currently underway.
