KARACHI:
Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan said that the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) are taking action against the criminals in three categories - terrorists, target killers and kidnappers - to maintain peace in Karachi.

He expressed these views while talking to the participants of Staff Course of Command and Staff College Quetta at Governor House. Dr Khan said that the LEAs have achieved important breakthroughs during the ongoing raids and several suspects have been arrested along with huge cache of arms and explosives.

He said that those arrested belonged to defunct parties and criminal groups and those found involved in heinous crimes have already been produced in the courts. The governor informed them that snap-checking would continue in the city as it was yielding positive results.

The ratio of crime in Sindh, he said, is less than other provinces but some elements are active in the province to sow sectarian and ethnic tension. The people are, however, aware of such nefarious designs.

The governor said that the city continues to attract investment despite efforts to destabilise the country and the economy because everyone is aware of the handsome return on investment in the metropolis.

The political parties don’t have a mechanism to scrutinise their workers before they join a party, he admitted. He appreciated, however, efforts by the parties to liaise with the police with regards to their workers’ arrest history.

Talking about Karachi’s infrastructure, he said that it is struggling to cater to the need of the growing population. He said that the Lyari Expressway is about to be completed while work on Karachi Circular Railway, mass transit, K-4 project for water provision and S-IV sewerage project would be started soon.
