QUETTA:

As a string of terror attacks rocked Balochistan on two consecutive days, Nawab Ghaus Bakhsh Barozai, the interim chief minister, expressed the resolve that no one would be allowed to sabotage elections in the province.

During a visit to Jafferabad on Wednesday, he said that an independent judiciary, election commission and media could ensure the citizen’s right to vote.

He said foolproof security arrangements would be made in the province and that if the need arose, the armed forces could be asked to intervene.

Not dismissing the notion that the law and order situation in the province was sensitive, he said while there were elements bent upon disrupting the electoral process the government would continue to make efforts for ensuring peaceful election.

Barozai was of the view that only parliamentary politics could safeguard the rights of the people in the province.

Clearing his stance over the process of elections he said that fair elections were in the interests of the masses. “Institutions should follow the code of conduct and electoral competition should not be turned into feud,” he added.

The interim minister proposed that by acting over the principles of good governance and establishing the writ of government, anti-social elements could be dealt with effectively. He also did not rule out possibility of ‘foreign hands’ being involved in the attacks on political leaders.

“The electoral institutions should get rid of any kind of mismanagement regarding the electoral process”.
